Registered Nurse – Cardiac Care Unit Discovery Program 2021

The Western Health CCUs are seeking RNs with outstanding clinical and interpersonal skills who would like to experience and introduction cardiac nursing. Applicants are expected to show a keen interest in their ongoing professional development and a mastery of the nursing basics. Discovery program positions are available on both Footscray and Sunshine CCUs.

About the program

The CCU Discovery program is an introduction to cardiac nursing at Western Health. Participants join the highly skilled cardiac nursing team as they experience the specialty of cardiac nursing.

CCU Discovery Program is a 12-month program in which participants develop new skills and knowledge via clinical and theoretical experiences. Clinically, participants will contribute to the management of patients with heart attacks, arrhythmias, acute heart failure and other cardiac conations. Theoretical experiences includes participation in a series of specialty tailored education days and exposure to acute interventions such as cardiac stenting and insertion of pace makers in the Cardiac Cath Lab.

Throughout the program participants will develop rhythm recognition and ECG interpretation skills required to safely care for patients on continuous cardiac monitoring. Successful completion of this program is the first step on a pathways to a Postgraduate Diploma of Nursing (Cardiac Stream) through La Trobe University.

To be considered for this program, you need to:

  • Have current registration as a Registered Nurse in Australia.
  • Have current acute nursing experience.
  • Have at least 12 months in acute medical / surgical nursing.
  • Possess excellent clinical and organisation skills.
  • Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Be willing to participate in ongoing professional development.
