Are you a GIS specialist with a strong background in town planning looking to expand your career? As our Spatial Planning Officer, you will be an integral member of our Strategic Planning Branch, providing specialised advice and technical input for spatial planning matters. You will use your excellent communication and teamwork skills to undertake data analysis and modelling to support a range of branch and cross-organisational Council projects, provide input to Section 10.7 Planning Certificates and be part of a team planning for Camden’s new urban release areas.

  • Qualifications in GIS, Town Planning or related discipline or currently studying and/ or related job experience;
  • Knowledge of Planning Certificates under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Regulation 2000 and Councils requirements with respect to these certificates;
  • Knowledge and practical experience in working with Geographical Information Systems (GIS) software;
  • Knowledge of wider NSW Planning Framework and associated legislation, including understanding of new area release planning and associated principles;
  • Ability to work as part of a team and contribute to team projects;
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and short timeframes;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Strong focus on and commitment to quality customer service; and
  • Demonstrated ability to apply EEO, WHS and ethical practice principles and to act with probity at all times


  • Demonstrated understanding of Microsoft office computer applications and other relevant platforms (i.e. QGIS, CAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Trimble SketchUp, FME);
  • Demonstrated understanding of placemaking and implications on the strategic planning process;
  • Demonstrated understanding of project management principles and objectives
