About the role

We are looking for a Supervisions Manager, External Interventions who can ensure the Society discharges its obligations under the Legal Profession Act 2007 with respect to the discharge of external intervention functions when officers of the team are appointed as external interveners. This role will report through to our Manager, External Interventions.

Some of your key accountabilities will include:

  • To accept appointment as Supervisor of the Trust money of Law Practices;
  • To be the prime contact person for issues regarding supervisions;
  • Drafting of applications for the appointment of receivers of law practices and supervisors of trust money
  • Receive and review a variety of items including cheque/EFT/PEXA requests, monthly reconciliation reports, declarations, statements and invoicing.
  • Liaise with each Practice in supervision to correct their Trust Accounting processes and to make recommendations whether a supervision should continue or be terminated or whether other regulatory action is required;
  • Systems administrator for the Society for supervised Practices in PEXA;
  • Liaison between the Society and Trust Account Bankers;
  • Assist, as directed by the Manager External Investigations, with management and disbursement of Trust monies in Trust Accounts of Law Practices in Receivership.

To succeed in the role, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Business or equivalent which provides immediate eligibility for CPA or CAANZ certification (essential).
  • Proven ability to lead and inspire and develop a team of professionals committed to excellence.
  • Sound knowledge of contemporary accounting practices and principles.
  • Ability to interpret and apply the provisions of the Legal Profession Act 2007 and the Legal Profession Regulation 2017 and other legislation applicable to the operations of Law Practices, in particular Law Practice Trust Accounts.
  • The ability to examine legal accounting records and client files to ascertain whether client funds have been properly dealt with.
  • High level written and oral communication skills with the ability to prepare complex reports and recommendations.
  • Strong negotiation and consulting skills.
  • Sound time management skills in order to plan, prioritise and work to regular type deadlines.
