An exciting opportunity exists for a speech pathologist with a strong interest in and commitment to improving the communication outcomes of children to join the very experienced and dedicated speech pathology team in NSLHD.

We are recruiting to 2 temporary full-time positions (Maternity Leave locums) based across our lower north shore community health centres (Ryde, Chatswood and St Leonards), and a temporary part-time position (2 days/week) based in Seaforth. There is the possibility of extension of these positions. These positions may be required to move to other community health centres in the district as needed.

Our speech pathology team has a focus on early intervention and being Hanen trained (It Takes Two to Talk and / or Target Word) is an advantage.

What you'll be doing

The Speech Pathologist (SP) provides assessment and intervention for consumers appropriate to their service. The main purpose of this position is to provide accurate assessment, intervention and therapy for consumers with communication and swallowing disorders within their allocated caseload population.
Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  • Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them.
  • Bachelor or post graduate degree in Speech Pathology and eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia.
  • Demonstrated well-developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrated computer literacy and ability to use health information systems.
  • Commitment to participation in professional development and quality improvement activities.
  • Demonstrate skills and knowledge in the provision of Speech Pathology service to consumers, carers and families requiring assessment, case management, intervention, appropriate referral and discharge planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise and manage workload demands, meet deadlines and complete activities (including ability to work within scope of practice and seek assistance when required).
  • Proven ability to work independently and to establish effectively collaboratively working relationships within a multi-disciplinary team and interagency networks.
