JOB DESCRIPTION

EMERALD TOURIST RAILWAY BOARD – BOARD DIRECTOR
The Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions (DJPR) is pleased to invite applications for part time positions on the Emerald Tourist Railway Board (ETRB).
The ETRB is governed by the Emerald Tourist Railway Act 1977 and is responsible for the preservation, development, promotion, operation and maintenance of the historic Puffing Billy Railway (PBR), which is Australia's foremost operating steam railway and one of the largest narrow-gauge steam and heritage railways in the world. PBR is one of Victoria's major tourist attractions, attracting large numbers of visitors each year.
THE BOARD
The ETRB consists of up to seven members appointed by the Governor in Council on the recommendation of the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events. Board members are appointed for a period of up to two years.
The Board meets on up to 11 occasions per year, with members expected to attend a minimum of 75 per cent of these meetings. Each subcommittee also meets on approximately 11 occasions per year.
Board members are also expected to:

* Actively participate during board meetings.
* Develop a comprehensive understanding of the PBR's finances, scope of services strategic context and legal framework.
* Adhere to the relevant obligations and duties set out in the Victorian Public Sector Commission's (VPSC) Directors' Code of Conduct. This includes bringing any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest or conflicts of duty to the attention of the ETRB Chairperson.
* Undertake any training and development required in order to fully discharge their responsibilities.

Board members are eligible for remuneration as determined by the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events and in accordance with the Appointment and Remuneration Guidelines published by the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
WHO SHOULD APPLY?
Expressions of interest are sought from suitably qualified individuals with knowledge, skills and expertise in finance, records management, tourism, working with volunteers, child safe standards and governance. In addition, individuals with knowledge, skills and expertise in rail operations, safety and heritage will be viewed favourably.
