About The Role

Based in either Garden Island, Sydney or Henderson, WA - The Commercial Manager is responsible for:

  • Predominantly ‘front-end’ work, focussed on enabling complex transactions, and the pursuit of new business through successful tendering
  • Prepare documentation and presentation material for prequalification, bids, and tender responses in accordance with parent company guidelines and NSM internal practices
  • Analysis of complex commercial issues, integrating information from a range of internal and external sources to provide strategic, expert, timely advice
  • Collaborating with internal customers to develop options and evolve innovative and commercially astute solutions suited to the sensitive matters and particular circumstances of NSM’s business
  • Supporting the Head of Commercial and Legal to prioritise current and future commercial requirements of the business
  • Administer and coordinate Gate reviews for all new business opportunities in accordance with the approved Delegation of Authority
  • Perform and/or coordinate detailed commercial analysis and legal review of tender and head contract documentation as they relate to new business opportunities
  • Work closely with estimators and analysts to ensure pricing model aligns with overall bid solution design
  • Must have well developed time management capabilities with proven ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
  • Must have advanced relationship management skills and ability to build and influence relationships within the business to ensure optimal contribution of other subject matter experts to the overall bid solution design and writing process
  • Lead commercial negotiations with internal customers and relevant subcontractors as part of integrated negotiation team
  • Support management of Intellectual Property (IP) and Technical Data (TD) assets and issues


About you
  • Relevant Degree and experience in law, commerce, finance, construction or maintenance management, engineering, or related discipline
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge and understanding of common contract terms and conditions
  • Extensive experience in negotiation of commercial contracts
  • The ability to manage contractual and other obligations in a timely manner in conjunction with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong financial and business acumen
  • Extensive, quality experience in Commercial Management roles
  • Self-motivation, initiative, and ability to manage competing priorities in a diverse workplace
  • Must either hold, or be eligible to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance
  • MUST be an Australian Citizen

  • Advanced computer skills with experience in a variety of software packages including financial modelling and analysis
  • Experience in procurement (for example, as a contracts specialist)
  • Understanding of trade control regulations or willingness to learn
  • Experience in Alliance and Joint Ventures
  • Experience of Government contracts and contracting processes
  • Prior experience in Defence sector
