About The Project

McConnell Dowell is the constructor within the Western Program Alliance (WPA) which forms part of the Victorian State government’s ambitious level crossing removal program. The Alliance brings together the Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP), Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM), and Arup and Mott MacDonald as design partners.

WPA was formed in 2017 and following the successful completion of several major projects, is now focused on delivering the level crossing removals at Werribee (Werribee Street & Cherry Street), Hoppers Crossing (Old Geelong Road) and Cranbourne (the Cranbourne Line Upgrade), as well as developing future works projects.

Your Opportunity

We are currently seeking applications from highly skilled and qualified Civil Engineers to lead and manage the construction of specific work packages. You will be responsible for leading your team in engineering activities to ensure that projects are implemented in accordance with plans, designs and specifications.

As Senior Project Engineer, You Will Be Accountable For

  • Coordinating and administering construction engineering activities to ensure that projects are implemented in accordance with plans, designs and specifications
  • Assisting with the preparation of site construction budgets and reports
  • Monitoring construction progress for adherence to programme and report to the Project Manager
  • Interpreting designs for implementation in construction projects
  • Contributing to improvements to existing designs
  • Demonstrating financial management skills and commercial acumen when making decisions
  • Assigning work and assisting with reviews for accuracy and adherence to required standards
  • Executing working knowledge of contractual and legislation relevant to the project
  • Undertaking quantitative and qualitative safety, environment and quality risk assessment to ensure acceptable quality of structures and finishes
  • Analysing and use document and record management, progress and project performance reporting compliance reporting
  • Managing and mentoring a team of project, site and graduate engineers
  • Demonstrating sound people management skills by managing work and performance of subcontractors to achieve outcomes.

Requirements For This Role Are
  • Tertiary qualification in construction and/or civil/structural engineering
  • Specialist experience in project engineering and a working knowledge of project management
  • Proven experience working on structures as part of a large multidisciplined civil infrastructure project preferably rail
  • Competent in planning and organising work schedules and a demonstrated ability to deliver to timelines
  • Proven experience in project engineering with project management knowledge and understanding with experience in the construction/heavy engineering sectors
  • Self-confident and able to persuade, convince or impress others in order to gain their commitment and cooperation to a course of action
  • Sound working knowledge of HS&E requirements and implementation of same
  • Strong and clear communication skills with proven ability to engage others
