At ANZ our purpose is to shape a world where people and communities thrive and to achieve this, we need a talented Engineer to join our Group Payments. The purpose of the Group Payments Tech Area is to transform Payments by fortifying existing platforms, simplifying and standardizing processes and technology and by enabling our business through reusable end-to-end services. The Group Payments area is responsible for building and running ANZ's payments services on on-Prem and cloud platforms based on Google Cloud and AWS, enabling the bank to make use of everything the cloud has to offer.

What a Typical Day Might Look Like-

As an Engineer within the Group Payment Tech, you will be responsible for building and running the services for one of Australia's largest financial institutions. Don't let that scare you though, we're doing things differently for the cloud.
  • Develop the Micro services using Spring boot, write Unit Tests and deploy micro services in container platform like GKE, Openshift etc.
  • Experience working with real time data streams
  • Migrate applications and/or data from on premise to GCP leveraging out of the box tools provided by GCP and also script other automation necessary to handle fallouts
  • You automate all the things and apply best-practices in CI/CD Development and automation.
  • You (or aspire to) design, build and operate large scale container workloads across multiple clouds.
  • We use many of the latest and greatest open-source tools, so you will need to be comfortable with constantly learning new tools and techniques along with running proof of concept evaluations to keep us on the leading edge.
  • We will turn to you for suggestions on how to improve the platforms, processes and tools. We expect that you already have great ideas you can share at our cloud guilds & user groups, along with industry Meetups.

What will likely be in your toolkit?

We are looking for engineers that already possess some or all of the following skills-
  • Excellent communication and technical consulting skills
  • A self-starter that enjoys a challenge and working in an agile environment
  • someone who takes pride in their work and will complete tasks in a timely manner with minimum supervision
  • who will develop and nurture relationships with stakeholders to ensure that all system requirements are developed and implemented with the customer in mind
  • Who enjoys learning new technologies and new ways of working
  • You have built and run Cloud technology at scale and have experience with either AWS, GCP or Azure
  • Good communicator and problem solver that can understand and translate business needs into strategic technology roadmaps and architectural principles
  • Ability to consult across business and technology with a view of compliance impacts
  • Articulate and communicate trade-offs for architecture decisions to both business and technical audience to obtain buy-ins to the solution
  • Experience in design solutions using Microservices solutions including APIs
  • Agile delivery experience such as Scrum, Kanban and Feature Driven Development is highly desirable as is the use collaboration tools such as Jira and confluence.
  • Practical experience applying good design principles to developing front end and backend applications (performance, scalability, security, authentication and access control, etc)
  • Experience with development tools such as bit bucket, uDeploy, Bamboo, Artifactory, Tosca, etc.
  • Good Payments and Messaging domain knowledge.
  • Knowledge and experience with application hosting in the Cloud and the associate technologies is highly desirable
  • Measure and monitor progress towards release dates and managing risks and issues that may affect release scope and or delivery dates.
  • Have a proven track-record in Agile Delivery - preferably within the digital space but definitely putting features in the hands of customers.
  • Ability to advise upon product design and best practices
  • Experience with at least one programming language (bash, Java, JavaScript, Ruby, Python, Swift), and you use these skills to automate as much as possible
  • Experience in using cloud native tools
  • Experience working with operations and architecture groups developing scalable and supportable solutions
  • Knowledge of SQL and above - Writing SQL queries
  • Cloud certification is bonus

While few of our engineers have all the skills above, they do all code. The particular language and tools used are not as important as your development skills and learning aptitude.
