Role Purpose/Context

The Principal Consultant Course Development is responsible for:

  • Leading, coordinating monitoring and evaluating micro-credential course development and endorsement activities across the Department.
  • Collection and analysis of industry intelligence to support government decision-making in supporting the development of industry training products, as well as skills and workforce development.
  • Providing high level discipline knowledge and professional expertise to internal and external stakeholders and clients on VET training products, industry training products; delivery and assessment strategies, courses and industry requirements, and national education and training sector regulatory frameworks.
  • Providing high level strategic advice for state and national policy which guides and informs the quality of education and training in South Australia that meets industry skills needs.
  • Providing education leadership to the SA vocational education and training (VET) sector on educational policy directions and initiatives, and VET products review and development.
  • Initiating, designing and delivering projects in areas of education, skills, training and workforce development.
  • Developing the capability of stakeholders in areas such as industry training, national training package requirements, training and assessment practices and methodologies, e-learning and application of foundation skills and learning support.
Key Selection Criteria
  • Providing education leadership to the SA vocational education and training (VET) sector on educational policy directions and initiatives, and VET products review and development.
  • In depth knowledge of the vocational education and training sector, South Australian training market, industry led training, state and national policy directions and requirements, in relation to the development, review and implementation of national training products and industry training products, including an understanding of the interrelationships of these with other education sectors and employment pathways.
  • Innovative delivery methodologies including e-learning and blended delivery and assessment strategies, as well as application of Foundation Skills.
  • Knowledge of the Australian Core Skills Framework and/or experience in developing the Literacy, Language, Numeracy and Digital technology skills of learners using foundation skills training products/courses.

  • Degree or qualification in professional or technical writing
  • Degree or qualification in teaching or education
Special Conditions

This is a term vacancy up to 12 months in the first instance. Some out of hours’ business work and intrastate travel may be required. Engagement in this role may be subject to a satisfactory Department of Human Services background screening check.
