About The Opportunity

The Planning and Land Use Services (PLUS) Division in the Attorney General’s Department manages the planning and land use system for South Australia. This includes the areas of planning and development, design and architecture, land and built environment and local government.

The Principal Planning Officer Legislation is accountable to the Manager, Governance and Business Services, for the drafting and provision of quality legislative advice across PLUS.

Key Requirements

Of The Role Include

  • Promoting an effective planning, development and local government system that provides policy and procedural certainty for proponents and the community and enhances the State’s competitive advantage.
  • Facilitating the drafting and introduction of legislative initiatives to support the Planning and Land Use Services Division.
  • Providing high level specialist legislative and policy advice to the Minister, the Chief Executive, the State Planning Commission and the Department’s senior management team on complex matters of significance to South Australia.
  • Supporting and driving the strategic vision of the organisation including input into the identification and management of future strategic initiatives and contribution to existing projects through regular business planning.
Significant experience in the review and formulation of legislation, and demonstrated knowledge of the South Australian planning and development system are essential to the role, as well as high level analytical and research skills and the ability to evaluate complex information and provide expert advice.

The role requires a flexible, “can-do” attitude and the ability to develop business knowledge quickly in response to evolving business needs. Qualifications or experience in Law or Urban and Regional Planning (or related disciplines) will also be highly regarded.

Special Conditions for Employment

Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Successful applicants will be provided further information if an interview is requested. Forms are not to be lodged directly with SA Police (SAPOL) under any circumstances and any fees incurred by applicants in doing so will not be recoverable from the AGD.
