Our client is an iconic business in the geography that it services, particularly in Perth and regional Western Australia. The business is a leader in the supply of project based combined electrical and mechanical services in challenging circumstances.

The business is experiencing rapid growth and is looking for an experienced, client-orientated Project Estimator to join the team as they continue to provide great service and a can-do attitude that enables the reliable delivery of high-quality compliant project outcomes.

About the Opportunity

This is an exciting and challenging position that provides accurate and competitive estimates to continuously win a range of electrical, mechanical and hydrocarbon related tenders. The role is absolutely pivotal in ensuring that the cost of supplies and labour is sound, and the projects are sustainable and profitable.

You will be working closely with the Managing Director in the first instance and will quickly move to support the broader Project Management team to secure and deliver new project opportunities.

About the Job

Working closely with the company Project Managers, day to day responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with scoping and designing mechanical, electrical and power systems for commercial construction and hydrocarbon projects.
  • Contributing to the preparation of project designs, drawings, plans and supporting documentation.
  • Analysing project drawings, plans and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labour estimates.
  • Accurate compilation of tender submissions and presentations.
  • Reviewing and understanding contract conditions, post contract monitoring and reporting including cost analysis and variations.
  • Identifying creative solutions to client requirements that may involve degree of competitive differentiation and innovation.
  • Attending site inspections, actively participating in meetings, building and maintaining strong relationships with company clients, industry suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Confidently negotiating with suppliers and subcontractors on prices, variation orders and accounts.

Skills and Requirements

To be successful in this role you will need to bring the following to the role:

  • Previous working experience in electrical and mechanical estimating and design.
  • Ability to build and maintain long term client relationships.
  • Strong technical knowledge and capabilities.
  • A working knowledge of Revit MEP and AutoCAD.
  • Proficient with Simpro based estimating system.
  • Experience with design of piping, valve, vessel, pump and related works.
  • The ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong understanding and working knowledge of electrical and construction industries safety standards.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels, maintaining strong relationships.

This opportunity requires the qualifications and skillset of a confident, technically astute Electrical and Mechanical Estimator with commercial and construction industry experience. The ideal candidate for this role will be driven to succeed with confidence operating in an autonomous role, with the support of the Company Management.
