About the Role

As the Assistant Designer you will be responsible for design support and product development of our in-house design team, ensuring alignment to the business’s strategic vision. Creating impactful ranges reflecting the extensive capability of Workwear Group Uniforms Direct business across the industrial and corporate sector.

You will work in collaboration with the Merchandise Team to design innovative, industry focused and customer driven product ranges that are commercially viable and profitable, whilst adhering to the critical path and all quality requirements.

What you’ll be doing

Review tender/client brief working with the Design Team to fill in gaps in information
Support the Design Team for major client briefings to ensure information from the customer is clear before design work commencement
Ongoing research of trends and progress in the industry sectors covered by your customers
Develop presentations that match the customer in terms of their aesthetics, what they will relate to
Create Technical Garment Specifications for costing and garment development - focus on accurate technical illustrations, bill of materials, and direction for aesthetic fit and base block
Collaborate with all key stakeholders during the design and product development process- fabric and garment technicians, patternmakers and sourcing teams
Participate in timeline meetings and risk assessment meetings
Maximise representation of catalogue products in design proposals
Colour palette direction and selection
Ensure that textile prints and patterns designs are commercially viable
Ensure that fabric base and trim selections will meet minimum quality standards
Detailed visual range plan/concept boards
Fabric and colour story boards
Swatch booklets
Ensure risk assessment is completed prior to handover for sample development
Maintaining and improving the framework for governance and review of customer, supplier and partner contracts

What we’re looking for

The role requires excellent organisational and multi-tasking skills, highly detail oriented, as well as having a strong sense of priority and follow through skills, ensuring deadlines are met. An ability to work in a team driven atmosphere demonstrating flexibility whilst being able to work independently. Along with this you will ideally have:

Knowledge of textiles, fibres, yarns, knitting, dyeing, print techniques, fabric properties and garment finishing techniques
Knowledge of garment construction
Comprehensive knowledge of clothing manufacture desirable
Experience communicating with offshore suppliers desirable
Work wear or performance apparel experience desirable
Experience with Industrial work wear standards desirable
