Your Role

Our Information Technology (IT) Department is seeking to employ a talented Security and Network Engineer, for our Security and Infrastructure Team. Based in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne or Perth, this is a fantastic opportunity for somebody looking to take responsibility for the design, delivery and support of the Firm's security and network systems.

Our Team

Allens uses technology to support all aspects of its business, in order to build our communication and collaboration capability. Our IT Department is made up of technical and project-focused experts who work together to resolve challenges, by creating robust and sustainable solutions for the business. Our Infrastructure Team is an integral part of the broader IT Department at Allens.

You will work in a collaborative environment advising and supporting the Firm with their IT issues and delivering outstanding service. Your day

As a Security and Network Engineer, your role will be varied and could typically include:

  • ensure the secure operation of computer systems, servers, and network connections.
  • implement and maintain security controls; implementing and proactively monitoring the environment and responding to security alerts as well as analysing and resolving security breaches and vulnerability issues in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • share knowledge within the Information Technology department to contribute to the growth of the team's overall technical knowledge.
  • provide hands-on orientation, documentation and training as required to other staff in order to broaden our base skill in the department, maintain processes, and assist with change management.
  • manage key relationships by building a professional reputation with security and network vendors so that the firm will have access to higher level support and technical information and roadmaps to ensure effective decision making and cost-effective support.
  • monitor and analyse the security and information systems infrastructure to ensure it complies with industry accepted practices, the firm’s security policy, and is used effectively to identify risks and threats associated with its use.
  • support the operation of the firm's security and network posture at all times by monitoring and maintaining systems to maximise availability and performance.
  • research and recommend new technologies, propose new efficiencies and be mindful of cost-effectiveness.
  • undertaking security reviews, drafting recommendations and implementation tasks as per project scopes of work.

Your clients

The Infrastructure Team advise and provide support to all practice groups, offices and departments at Allens in relation to the design, delivery and support of the Firm's business systems. We work in partnership with our stakeholders delivering outstanding service, and help them to achieve their business outcomes and strategic goals.

What you'll bring


  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or above;
  • Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) – Security Essentials; and
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISP) or Certified Information Security Manager (CISM).


  • Significant experience as a System Engineer.
  • Demonstrated experience managing Infrastructure environments for 1000+ staff across multiple sites.
  • Experience with maintaining and implementing IT security industry standards and controls, such as ISO 27001.
  • Strong understanding of ITIL, Incident, Change, Problem Management and Risk Management.
  • Experience maintaining IP network infrastructure, routing, switching and wireless
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP
  • Experience in various technologies, including ASA, Palo Alto, Cisco Hardware, F5, ISE
  • Fault detection, proactive performance monitoring, general network and security systems management (firewalls, EDR, intrusion detection systems) and the timely resolution of systems issues.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and exercise discretion with sensitive information.
  • Problem solving, analyse information rapidly to in order to present solutions to queries and incidents as required.
  • Team player, detail oriented, logical thinker and have a 'can-do' attitude.
  • Ability to identify critical issues and risks and deal with them proactively and independently.
  • A strong ability to work well and think clearly under pressure.
  • Excellent organisation skills and ability to multitask, while prioritising workloads.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to write documentation and a passion for sharing your knowledge.

Work pattern

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity for an experienced Security and Network Engineer.

As the owner of various systems, you will be expected to perform out-of-hours maintenance and critical support when required.
