The role

The Executive Manager Visitor Economy will provide leadership and direction in relation to services that seek to enhance Visitor Economy within the City of Ballarat. The position objectives for this role include:

Provide strategic direction and advice on all new and existing opportunities for the Ballarat LGA.

Provide leadership to ensure that Ballarat has the most dynamic and successful visitor economy industry in regional Australia and galvanise its position of the creative capital of western Victoria.

Deliver and maintain the TEP and Visitor Economy strategic plans for the sector ensuring that it delivers key actions of the Council Plan. The strategic plan must provide a shared vision and focus on sustainable operation of Visitor Economy in Ballarat.

Provide insightful leadership that delivers the highest standard of stakeholder engagement and represent Council at meetings, functions and conferences.

Engaging with key stakeholders, managing increasing community expectations and creating a customer aware service environment will be the strategies to championing the role of the department within the overall Council structure.

About you

To be considered for this exciting opportunity, the City of Ballarat is seeking a highly motivated and professional leader in Visitor Economy. The preferred candidate will have demonstrated technical experience in Visitor Economy deliverables and well developed interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise and clearly communicate with the community, professionals and elected members on the following key areas of responsibility:

Develop, maintain, and enhance the partnership between the industry, Tourism Australia, Visit Victoria, regional tourism bodies, business associations, key tourism/product groups and key stakeholders.

Influence external policy makers & stakeholders for the benefit of the region.

Develop, maintain, and enhance the partnership between the City of Ballarat and the Board of BRT.

Represent and present on behalf of the organisation at relevant forums.

Promote the value of tourism to community. .

Foster a close working relationship with the business, sporting and commercial organisations within the Ballarat LGA. To be then able to advise businesses of the benefits derived from travel and tourism within the area.

Key Selection Criteria

Post graduate qualifications relevant to the position plus management qualifications coupled with senior management experience, preferably in Tourism industry.

Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with Government and Tourism peak bodies to develop product, experiences and campaigns to enhance local visitor economy outcomes.

Superior communication and entrepreneurial skills to influence, negotiate and collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders including an ability to use discretion and judgement in a complex business and political environment.

High degree of proficiency in report writing, research skills, strategy and policy development.

Highly developed conceptual, analytical and lateral thinking skills with proven ability to create and inspire a team of staff and external service providers to identify and maximise opportunities to enhance the Visitor Economy.

Demonstrated ability to lead staff through change.

Ability to focus on building team capability and responsiveness.

Proven performance in developing, implementing and maintaining cooperative work relationships between the Visitor Economy Industry, local government and community groups.

Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining industry, government and community partnerships to deliver key strategies and projects.

Commitment to effectively manage occupational health and safety issues especially relevant to this role.
