Full Job Description
On behalf of our client, a leader in the Rail and Transport industry, we are currently seeking an experienced Technical Writer. You will be responsible for producing procedures, instructions and manuals for maintenance / overhaul activities and operations. You will also control updates and periodic review of plans and supporting documentation. This is a contract role starting immediately for at least 3 months with view to extend.


Work in conjunction with the Project Team to ensure that all supporting Technical Publications and any Job Plans are developed and maintained to the highest possible standards in alignment with the overhaul contracts.
Develop and revise maintenance instructions and check sheets in conjunction with Engineers and SMEs, to determine their suitability and impact on existing plans, maintenance manuals and technical procedures.
Ensure maintenance practices are investigated thoroughly and the technical documentation is able to be utilised effectively to improve the tram overhauls.
Review training documentation in conjunction with the Training Team to ensure that training objectives of the maintainers are met.
Monitor, update and manage the Document Change Request (DCR) process and register to ensure tasks are allocated efficiently and in a timely turnaround for customer requirements.
Develop any training as requested.
Ensure that supporting maintenance documents are written such that safety is always first considered and continuous improvement can be achieved.

Skills & Requirements

Tertiary Qualifications in Technical Writing or Mechanical/Electrical Engineering.
Rail and/or engineering team experience.
Proven experience writing technical overhaul procedures and developing training resources.
A background in a planned maintenance overhaul environment, or with proven design experience understanding.
Excellent attention to detail with a commitment to producing high quality documentation within agreed deadlines.
Excellent research and analysing skills and proven technical editing skills.
A high degree of initiative, self-starting, reliability and task management.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to obtain the required technical information from a broad range of people across the Yarra team.
Previous experience in the development of maintenance documentation for rolling stock or transport fit-outs will be highly regarded.
Extensive hands-on experience of the Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Professional Writer.
Experience with Adobe FrameMaker and Photo Shop is desirable.
